On May 25th, 2018 the European Union adopted the Global Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which updates and toughens the data protection requirements for individuals within the European Union. Specifically, the GDPR requires organizations that gather, store, and process data belonging to EU citizens to have the capabilities in place to protect their data and privacy. Consequently, achieving compliance with GDPR depends on an organization’s ability to collect, house, and provide access to personal data in a manner consistent with the regulation’s requirements.

That’s where Identity and Identity Governance and Administration (IGA) and by extension, Identity Access Management (IAM) play a critical role in providing organizations with the means to manage and maintain user identities and govern access to personal data to satisfy the onerous requirements enshrined within GPDR.
